AIRCHECK OF THE WEEK
For week of January 31, 2016
Edition #870

Talent: DUFF ROMAN
Station: CHUM Toronto
Date: January 27, 1968
Time: 52:39 (unscoped)

Sometimes it pays to wait.

Long-time weekend announcer Duff Roman finally got his own weekday shift late in 1967 with the departure of Dick Hayes. Roman had been waiting two years for a weekday spot, having done weekends/swing after coming over from rival CKEY in 1965. One of CHUM's most endearing personalities, Roman left the station in 1968 and - after a year-long stay at CKRC Winnipeg - landed a stint as program director and morning man at rival CKFH in the fall of 1969. He returned to the CHUM group in management in 1974.

On this aircheck, Roman is on remote at Speed Sport '68 on the grounds of the Canadian National Exhibition. For years, CHUM had a booth at the 'Ex, which he held every year at the CNE during the last two weeks of August.
