It seems as if every city had a deejay known, for lack of a better tag, as a "Professor of Rock 'N' Roll." Toronto radio fans enjoyed Roger Ashby's "Sunday Morning Oldies Show" for years. In Buffalo, N.Y., there has been Tom Shannon and aTom Donahue. In New York, the "Professor" tag could go to number of deejays, including Norm N. Nite, Bob Shannon and Scott Muni. Brian Bierne and Art Labow have filled the professor role in the Los Angeles market. On the syndicated front, there's Dick Bartley and Casey Kasem among many others.

Radio fans in Chicago in the 1970s had their own "Rock 'N' Roll" Prof, Bob Dearborn. The knowledgeable Dearborn, a native Hamiltonian who worked under the name Bud Roberts at CKOC in the early '60s, has had a long and storied career in rock radio. One of the many highlights is "Nighttime America," the first daily, live, satellite music show that appeared in over 150 of North America's largest markets in the early '80s. This ground-breaking show from the RKO Network paved the way for the many that would follow.

In 2003, southern Ontario residents had the pleasure of hearing Dearborn in mornings on AM 740 (CHWO).

However, the station Bob Dearborn may be most identified with is the legendary Big 10 WCFL, where he jocked from 1970-76.
