AIRCHECK OF THE WEEK

Edition #1287
Week of March 17, 2024

Talent: JACK ARMSTRONG
Station: KKHR Los Angeles
Date: November 11, 1984
Time: 45:46 (unscoped)
       11:25 (scoped)

Jack Armstrong is heard at the last of his Los Angeles stops, KKHR.

This is a different Armstrong than we're used to. He's somewhat more subdued, and talks a lot more about the artists and music than in the past.

KKHR was Armstrong's fourth California call sign. He arrived in the City of Angeles in 1978 at KTNQ, which became KHTZ the following year. KFI was next, then KFRC San Francisco and then back to L.A. at KKHR.

In 1988 Armstrong wenr to KBOS Fresno, California, which turned out to be his last west coast stop. He headed back to his home state of North Carolina for mornings at WMQX from 1993-97, then concluded his career at his old stomping grounds at WWKB from 2003 to 2006.

The last we heard Armstrong anywhere was at the final on-air CHUM reunion in 2007, for a brief interview with Bob Laine. He died the following March 23 after a fall at his home in High Point, North Carolina. He was 62.
