"Records is truly my middle name."
What are the chances?
John Records Landecker got his middle name from his mother, Majorie, whose maiden name was Records. It has nothing to do with the records John would spin on the radio many years later, as many believed. The middle name proved fortunate as Landecker referred to it often on the air
Born March 28, 1947, Landecker began spinning vinyl records on the radio as a high-school student at WOAI-AM in Saline, Michigan. After that he worked up and down the dial until landing at The Big 89, WLS in 1972. He spent nine years there then returned in 1986 until the end of the WLS music era three years later. He jocked at many other Chicago stations and even segued briefly to CFTR Toronto in the early '80s. But we remember him at WLS.
