He was Canada's Master of the Morning.
Don Percy woke up countless number of Canadians during a career of nearly 60 years. Along the way he jocked in major markets like Toronto, Edmonton, Vancouver and Winnipeg. About half of his career was spent in the 'Peg, where his stops included such legendary stations as CKY (KY-58) and CFRW. His resume also includes CHUM, where he was the first morning man during that station's "Favourites of Yesterday and Today" era beginning in 1986.
Percy retired from radio in 2015 at Winnipeg's CJWL "The Jewel", ending a career that began in 1956 at CFCO Chatham, Ont., where he made $37.50 a week and sometimes read the news on his day off.
In 1973, Percy was doing mornings at CKPR Thunder Bay. This aircheck is mostly news, sports and talk - in fact there are only two somgs on it! It's a rare peak at full-service radio in the early '70s, when people outnumbered computers.
