His middle name was Records and John Landecker played lots of them during a five-decade career.
Born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Landecker spent most of his radio years on the other side of Lake Michigan in Chicago.
His broadcast career began as a high-school student at WOAI-AM in Saline, Michigan. From there, Landecker jocked in Michigan at WTRX Flint, WERX Grand Rapids and WILS Lansing. He hit the big time at WIBG Philadelphia, CFTR Toronto, WPHR Cleveland and in Chicago at WLS (twice), WLS-FM, WGN, WLUP, WAGO, WZZN-FM and WJMK-FM.
Named Billboard's Radio Personality of the Year in 1977, Landecker was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2017. He is also part of the radio exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Chicago. Landecker has also released an autobiography named "Records is Truly My Middle Name."
