Tony Pigg made his mark in both TV and radio, simultaneously.
The man born Richard Quinn jocked for more than three decades at three New York FM stations and was also for 30-plus years the staff announcer at the New York-based TV show co-hosted by Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa.
Born
Richard Quinn, Pigg
got his start at a station in Winslow, Arizona, and KROY-AM
in his hometown
of Sacramento, California. He called himself Tony Bigg
- after a favourite uncle and a reference to his 6-foot-4 frame - -
but got the moniker Pigg when someone
mispronounced his name.
Pigg later moved to New York where he spent 15 years at WPLJ
and also jocked at WNEW-FM and
WXRK (K-Rock).
Pigg died
May 1, 2024 at the age of 85.
Also heard on this aircheck is Carol Miller,
another long-time New York radio personality who more recently has been heard on
SiriusXM.
