Salute to #2 Radio!
They were Number-Two and proud of it.
CKFH, founded in 1951 by hockey broadcast pioneer Foster Hewitt, became a rock station on January 2, 1967, taking on long-time Top 40 kingpin CHUM in the battle for teenage ears in Toronto.
Gone was Mantovani, in were the Monkees. The Living Strings were replaced by the Lovin' Spoonful. James Last was supplanted by James Brown.
The New Sound had arrived at CKFH!
On this
site, we are looking back at CKFH, the
station that whimsically branded itself as Number-Two
radio (because all the other radio stations are
Number-One). While focus is on the rock years from 1967
to 1975, we'll also look at CKFH's history
before and after that time frame. Enjoy this trip back in
time when Number-Two radio was Number-One in our hearts!
